  1Gbps Outdoor Network Patch Cord

The 1Gbps outdoor network patch cord is a ruggedized twisted-pair solution engineered to deliver stable 1 Gigabit per second speeds in harsh outdoor conditions—such as connecting outdoor security cameras, wireless access points (WAPs), or remote office buildings. Unlike indoor cords that only need basic protection, this outdoor variant features heavy-duty weatherproofing to withstand rain, snow, UV radiation, extreme temperatures (-40°C to 70°C), and physical damage from debris or wildlife. It is designed for short-to-medium outdoor runs (up to 100 meters) where fiber optics may be too expensive, making it ideal for residential security systems, campus outdoor networks, or small business perimeter connectivity.

Built to Cat6 or Cat6a specifications—with Cat6 being the most popular for 1Gbps outdoor use—it features four twisted pairs of 23AWG or 24AWG copper conductors with a tight twist rate (TPI: 22–28 for Cat6, 26–32 for Cat6a). Most outdoor variants use shielded designs (FTP: Foil Twisted Pair or STP: Shielded Twisted Pair) to protect against EMI/RFI from nearby power lines or industrial equipment, a common issue in outdoor settings. The copper conductors are oxygen-free copper (OFC) to resist corrosion from moisture and ensure consistent electrical conductivity, with signal attenuation ≤4.5 dB at 250 MHz (Cat6) or ≤6.0 dB at 500 MHz (Cat6a)—enabling 1Gbps performance over the full 100-meter range.

The outer jacket is the cord’s most critical outdoor feature, typically made of UV-resistant, water-proof polyethylene (PE) or industrial-grade PVC. These materials repel water (meeting IP67 or IP68 ingress protection ratings for some variants) and block UV radiation, preventing the jacket from cracking or degrading in direct sunlight. The jacket also has a thick, impact-resistant design to withstand damage from rocks, branches, or animal chewing. For added protection, many outdoor cords include a water-blocking gel or tape around the conductors to stop moisture from seeping into the cable core. Connectors are weather-sealed RJ45 with rubber gaskets and metal housings, preventing water and dust from entering the connection point. They also have gold-plated contacts (100–200 microinches) to resist corrosion from humidity.

Compliant with TIA/EIA-568-C.2 and ISO/IEC 11801 standards, the 1Gbps outdoor patch cord is compatible with 1Gbps-enabled outdoor hardware, including PoE (Power over Ethernet) security cameras, outdoor WAPs, and weatherproof switches. It is available in lengths from 5–100 meters and color-coded (typically black or gray) to blend with outdoor surroundings. For organizations or homeowners needing high-speed connectivity in external environments, this cord delivers the perfect balance of performance and durability—proving that outdoor networks don’t have to sacrifice speed for weather resistance.
