GYXTW Fiber Optic Cable: Central Tube Non-Armored Solution with Steel Wire Strength Members for Outdoor Access Networks

With the rapid advancement of fiber-to-the-x (FTTx) networks and smart infrastructure deployments, there is an increasing demand for lightweight, flexible, and cost-effective fiber optic cables for medium-distance outdoor transmission and indoor-outdoor transition scenarios. GYXTW (G: Gel-filled, Y: Polyethylene sheath, X: Central tube structure, T: Thermoplastic loose tube, W: Steel wire strength member) fiber optic cable, as a classic central tube non-armored solution with steel wire reinforcement, is engineered to balance performance, flexibility, and affordability. Our GYXTW Fiber Optic Cable is specifically designed for telecom access networks, FTTx deployments, campus networks, and indoor-outdoor transition links, providing a reliable transmission medium for carriers, ISPs, and enterprise users worldwide.

  Core Structural & Technical Advantages

The GYXTW cable adopts a compact central tube structure, where multiple optical fibers are directly placed in a single gel-filled PBT (Polybutylene Terephthalate) central tube (thermoplastic loose tube). Symmetrically arranged around the central tube are high-strength steel wires (strength members), which provide excellent tensile resistance (long-term tensile strength up to 200N, short-term up to 400N) and anti-sagging performance. This integrated structure ensures a small outer diameter (typically 7-10mm) and lightweight design, making the cable highly flexible and easy to handle—critical for scenarios requiring frequent bending or narrow-space routing, such as indoor-outdoor transition ducts or building entry points. The gel filling in the central tube forms a reliable moisture barrier, effectively preventing water intrusion and protecting the fibers from humidity and water damage, ensuring long-term transmission stability in outdoor environments.

Unlike armored cables (e.g., GYTS, GYTA), GYXTW features a single HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) sheath design without metal armor, paired with steel wire reinforcement for mechanical protection. The HDPE sheath boasts excellent UV resistance, weather resistance, and abrasion resistance, enabling reliable operation in extreme temperature ranges from -40°C to 70°C, adapting to diverse climatic conditions such as urban areas, suburbs, and general outdoor environments. The non-armored design reduces the cable weight and cost, while the steel wire strength members ensure structural stability, making it suitable for aerial installation, duct laying, and direct burial in non-rocky areas.

Our GYXTW cable supports single-mode (SM, G.652D, G.657A1/A2) optical fibers as standard, with fiber counts ranging from 2 to 12 cores (customizable up to 24 cores). Single-mode variants enable medium-distance transmission (up to 60km at 1310nm wavelength, 100km at 1550nm wavelength) with data rates up to 100 Gbps, perfectly matching the bandwidth requirements of FTTx access networks, building-to-building links, and small-to-medium enterprise backbone networks. The high-purity optical fibers and advanced manufacturing processes ensure low signal attenuation (typical attenuation: ≤0.36 dB/km at 1310nm, ≤0.22 dB/km at 1550nm), guaranteeing clear and stable data transmission.

  Key Performance Features

  • Compact, Lightweight & High Tensile Strength: Central tube structure with steel wire reinforcement ensures small outer diameter, lightweight design, and excellent tensile/anti-sagging performance, facilitating easy aerial installation, routing, transportation, and installation in narrow spaces or complex ducts.

  • Reliable Moisture Protection: Gel-filled central tube and dual PE sheaths form a multi-layer moisture barrier, complying with IEC 60794-1-1 Type B water blocking standard, suitable for outdoor and indoor-outdoor transition environments.

  • Excellent Weather Resistance: HDPE outer sheath with UV resistance and wide temperature adaptability, ensuring stable performance in sun exposure, rain, and mild cold/hot conditions.

  • Versatile Laying Adaptability: Non-armored design with steel wire reinforcement supports aerial, duct, and direct burial (non-rocky) installation, adapting to multiple outdoor deployment scenarios.

  • Cost-Effective: Simplified structure reduces production costs while maintaining core performance, making it an economical choice for large-scale FTTx and access network deployments.

  • Long Service Life: High-quality PBT tube, PE sheaths, and optical fibers ensure a service life of over 25 years, meeting long-term network operation requirements.

  Optimal Applications

Our GYXTW Fiber Optic Cable is widely applicable in medium-distance, flexible-requirement network scenarios, especially for aerial and multi-scenario laying needs:

  • FTTx Access Networks: Serving as the last-mile transmission medium for FTTH (Fiber-to-the-Home) and FTTB (Fiber-to-the-Building) deployments, connecting distribution points to residential buildings or end-user premises.

  • Indoor-Outdoor Transition Links: Routing between outdoor ducts and indoor distribution cabinets, adapting to narrow entry points and frequent bending requirements.

  • Campus & Enterprise Networks: Connecting buildings in universities, industrial parks, or corporate campuses (medium-distance), supporting high-bandwidth inter-building communication such as video conferencing and data sharing.

  • Telecom Access Networks: Laying in suburban, rural access networks via aerial or duct routes, connecting base stations or distribution nodes to end-user clusters, bridging the digital divide with cost-effective and stable solutions.

  • Smart Community & IoT Deployments: Serving as the transmission backbone for smart community devices (e.g., access control systems, surveillance cameras) in outdoor public areas and building perimeters.

  Compliance & Quality Assurance

Our GYXTW Fiber Optic Cable strictly complies with international standards, including IEC 60794-1-1 (for central tube fiber optic cables), ITU-T G.652D/G.657A1, and RoHS. Each batch of cables undergoes rigorous quality testing, including attenuation testing, water blocking testing, tensile strength testing, bending loss testing, and temperature cycle testing, to ensure consistent performance and reliability. We also offer customized solutions, such as adjusting fiber count, adding messenger wire for enhanced aerial installation, or customizing cable length, to meet the specific needs of different regional markets and project scenarios.
