1Gbps Fiber Optic Network Patch Cord

The 1Gbps fiber optic network patch cord is a high-performance optical solution designed to deliver stable 1 Gigabit per second speeds over extended distances, making it ideal for enterprise campus networks, data center interconnects, and long-haul links between geographically dispersed offices. Unlike copper cords that suffer from signal degradation over long distances, fiber optic cords use light transmission through a glass or plastic core, enabling 1Gbps performance over distances up to 2 kilometers (for multi-mode fiber) or 100 kilometers (for single-mode fiber). This makes it a top choice for environments where devices are spaced far apartsuch as connecting a universitys main campus to a satellite research center or linking two data centers in different citieswithout the need for signal repeaters.

At its core, the 1Gbps fiber patch cord is available in two variants: multi-mode (MMF) and single-mode (SMF). Multi-mode variants use a wider 50/125um or 62.5/125um core, transmitting multiple light beams (modes) and operating at wavelengths of 850nm or 1300nm. They are cost-effective for short-to-medium distances (up to 2 km) and work with low-cost VCSEL transceivers, making them suitable for campus networks or data center intra-connects. Single-mode variants, by contrast, have a narrow 9/125um core that transmits a single light beam, operating at 1310nm or 1550nm. They offer ultra-low signal attenuation (<0.4 dB/km at 1310nm) and excel in long-haul applications like telecom backbones or cross-city data links.

The cords construction prioritizes signal integrity and durability. The fiber core is protected by a buffer layer (250μm or 900μm) and a rugged outer jacket (typically LSZH or PVC), which resists abrasion, moisture, and temperature fluctuations (-40°C to 85°C). Common connectors include LC (small-form-factor for high-density racks), SC (robust for easy handling), and ST (twist-lock for secure connections), all with precision ceramic ferrules to ensure low insertion loss (<0.3dB) and consistent alignment.

Compliant with international standards like TIA/EIA-568-C.3 and IEC 61754, the 1Gbps fiber patch cord is compatible with all 1Gbps-enabled optical hardware, including Gigabit Ethernet switches, SFP transceivers, and optical line terminals (OLTs). It is color-coded for easy identification: aqua for multi-mode OM3/OM4, yellow for single-mode. Available in lengths from 1 meter (rack-to-device runs) to 100 meters (campus links), it is a versatile solution for organizations needing reliable, long-distance 1Gbps connectivity. For businesses prioritizing distance and interference immunity over cost, the 1Gbps fiber optic network patch cord is an indispensable component of modern enterprise infrastructure.
