CAT6 cross-over network cable is a specialized type of CAT6 cable designed for connecting devices of the same type, distinguished by its different wire sequence arrangements at the two ends of the RJ45 connectors: one end follows the 568B standard, while the other end adopts the 568A standard (white green, green, white orange, blue, white blue, orange, white brown, brown). This cross-wiring design swaps the transmit (TX) and receive (RX) pairs of the cable, allowing two identical devices to communicate directly without the need for an intermediate device such as a switch or hub. The cable maintains all the high-performance features of CAT6 standard, including 4 pairs of twisted copper conductors, effective insulation, and anti-interference capabilities, ensuring that data transmission is not compromised by the cross-wiring design.
Traditionally, CAT6 cross-over cables were essential for connecting two DTE devices (such as two computers, two servers) or two DCE devices (such as two switches, two routers) directly. For example, connecting two computers to share files or a printer without a switch, or cascading two switches in an older network that does not support Auto-MDI/MDI-X functionality. While modern network devices have largely eliminated the need for cross-over cables by automatically detecting and adjusting the transmit and receive pins, cross-over cables still play an important role in specific scenarios, such as network troubleshooting, testing, or connecting legacy equipment that lacks automatic adjustment capabilities. Like other CAT6 cables, they support data transmission speeds of up to 10Gbps at 250MHz, with low delay skew and high signal-to-noise ratio, ensuring stable and reliable communication between identical devices. They are available in various lengths, making them flexible for both short-distance desktop connections and longer-distance network testing.
