The LC-ST fiber jumper is a versatile and essential component in fiber optic networks, designed to connect devices with different interface typesspecifically, LC (Lucent Connector) and ST (Straight Tip) connectors. As one of the most widely used hybrid fiber jumpers, it addresses the common challenge of interface incompatibility between legacy equipment (equipped with ST connectors) and modern high-density devices (equipped with LC connectors), enabling seamless signal transmission without the need to replace existing hardware, thus significantly reducing network upgrade costs. This jumper combines the compact size and high performance of LC connectors with the robustness and reliability of ST connectors, making it ideal for a wide range of applications across various industries.

The LC-ST fiber jumper features a carefully engineered structure that ensures optimal performance and durability. One end of the jumper is equipped with an LC connector, a small-form-factor (SFF) connector with a 1.25mm ceramic ferrulehalf the size of STs 2.5mm ferrule. The LC connector uses a push-pull locking mechanism, which allows for easy insertion and removal, even in tight spaces, and is ideal for high-density environments such as data centers, where space efficiency is critical. The other end features an ST connector, which uses a bayonet twist-lock mechanism for secure connection, making it resistant to accidental disconnection and well-suited for harsh or high-vibration environments like industrial sites or outdoor base stations.

In terms of optical performance, the LC-ST fiber jumper adheres to strict international standards (IEC, TIA) and is available in both single-mode and multimode variants to meet different transmission requirements. Single-mode LC-ST jumpers (typically with yellow jackets) use G.652D fiber, offering low attenuation (as low as 0.2dB/km) and supporting transmission distances of over 10km, making them suitable for long-haul applications such as inter-building connections and carrier backbones. They can also support high-speed transmission up to 100Gbps, catering to modern network demands. Multimode LC-ST jumpers (with orange or aqua jackets) are compatible with OM3, OM4, and OM5 fibers, transmission distances up to 2km, and are cost-effective for short-haul applications such as indoor LANs, office networks.

The construction of the LC-ST fiber jumper is designed to withstand the rigors of daily use and complex installation environments. The fiber core is made of high-quality quartz, ensuring low signal loss, while the cable is reinforced with Kevlar strength members to enhance tensile strength (up to 400N) and resistance to stretching or breaking during installation and maintenance. The outer jacket is typically made of low-smoke zero-halogen (LSZH) or flame-retardant PVC material, which is environmentally friendly, fire-resistant, and protects against moisture, dust, and chemical damage. The jumper also features strain relief boots at both ends to prevent cable fatigue and ensure a secure connection between the connector and the cable.

Common applications of the LC-ST fiber jumper include old network upgrades (connecting legacy ST-equipped devices to new LC-equipped switches or servers), data center (linking ST patch panels to LC optical transceivers), industrial control systems, outdoor (base stations), and test equipment connections. When selecting an LC-ST fiber jumper, key factors to consider include fiber type (single-mode/multimode), polish type (PC/UPC/APC), insertion loss (0.3dB), return loss (50dB for UPC, 60dB for APC), and cable length (customizable from 1m to 50m or more). With its ability to bridge legacy and modern systems, the LC-ST fiber jumper remains a critical component in the evolution of fiber optic networks, ensuring compatibility, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
