FTTH (Fiber to the Home) self-supporting fiber optic cable is a specialized optical cable designed specifically for aerial installations in FTTH projects, serving as the critical link that connects the optical distribution network to individual residences and small commercial buildings. Unlike conventional fiber cables that require additional support structures such as poles or brackets, this cable features an integrated self-supporting design, typically with a built-in strength member—such as fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP), KFRP, or solid steel wire—that enables it to be directly strung between utility poles or buildings without relying on external support. This unique structure not only simplifies installation and reduces construction costs but also enhances the cable’s mechanical stability, making it suitable for long-distance aerial deployment in both urban and rural areas.
The core structure of FTTH self-supporting fiber optic cable usually includes one or more single-mode fibers (complying with G.657A standard) encapsulated in a protective loose tube, surrounded by the strength member and an outer sheath made of low-smoke zero-halogen (LSZH) material. The LSZH sheath provides excellent resistance to ultraviolet radiation, aging, and corrosion, ensuring long-term reliability in harsh outdoor environments with operating temperatures ranging from -40℃ to +70℃. The cable is available in various fiber counts, including 1F, 2F, 4F, 6F, and 12F, to meet different FTTH deployment needs. Its mechanical performance is outstanding: for cables with steel wire strength members, the short-term tensile strength can reach 600N and long-term tensile strength 300N, while the short-term crush resistance is 2000N/100mm and long-term 1000N/100mm, effectively withstanding external pressures such as strong winds, ice, and snow. Additionally, the cable’s small diameter (ranging from 2.0×3.0mm to 2.3×6.0mm) and light weight (18.5 to 21.5 kg/km) facilitate transportation and installation, making it an ideal choice for "last-mile" connectivity in FTTH networks, especially in areas where underground cabling is impractical or costly.
